Welcome!
My story
Hi! I’m Shelly and I love flowers.
Growing up on my parents farm I was surrounded by big vegetable and flower gardens. Back then I would ‘save’ the wild growing pansies from the rototiller, would fall asleep among the potatoes, and once ‘helped’ my mom by harvesting ALL her carrots!
My love of seasonal flowers and bouquets really started with my grandma. At the end of every visit to my grandparents’ farm (only a short drive from my parents’ farm), my dad, grandma, and I would walk through her flower gardens and pick whatever was in season -Grandma with her kitchen scissors in hand, my dad with his pocket knife, and me running ahead through the rows of her lovingly tended and somewhat wild cottage garden.
Depending on the season, the handpicked bouquet consisted of only a few bachelor buttons or the biggest armload of peonies I could carry. Every bouquet was wrapped with wet paper towel and a plastic baggie to survive the short drive home. Although a simple act of picking flowers, those bouquets meant so much more: gratitude, appreciation of the present, joy, love, and the sharing of knowledge from one generation to the next.
Sadly my grandma never got to see the abundance of dahlias and cut flowers I’m now growing, but her love of flowers was passed on to me. I am passionate about growing colorful unique flowers and sharing them with the world (and am still in awe every time I walk through the dahlia patch!).
The Farm
After quickly outgrowing my suburban flower beds, I stared planting my ‘extra’ dahlia tubers at my parents’ farm. I currently plant 500+ dahlia tubers there and am expanding my cut flower offerings this season to include unique varieties of zinnias, cosmos, foliage, etc. Follow along on the socials and join my newsletter for the latest updates!
The Flowers
It is my goal and passion to celebrate and share unique seasonal locally grown specialty flowers. It is amazing what can be grown in a Zone 3 climate!
Happy growing and thank you for supporting local. Here’s to an awesome growing season ahead!
